Astoria City Resort

The hotel is in a great spot, just a few minutes' walk from the underground, lovely shops, supermarkets, a big mall with a food court, and lots of different restaurants. There are banks and an ATM in the area too. I arrived five days ago and felt welcome right away. The service was professional and warm, and everyone was helpful and smiling. Breakfast was excellent, with hot and cold dishes, fresh bakery items, juice, fruit, and homemade jam. The breakfast room looks out onto the garden and pond, with the calming sound of a water spring. Thank you for being so kind.

We told them beforehand that our van was 3 m high and were assured there would be parking. Once there, though, we couldn't get through the path leading to the parking spaces, so we had to park somewhere else. Self check-in is a good idea, but the system at Astoria seems outdated and we struggled with it. The room was very dirty. The carpet was covered with black stains, and the bathtub was old and rusty. The balcony was the only good thing, but it was very dirty too, and the chairs were old and ugly. We paid 67eur for this 'amazing' experience. I've stayed in plenty of hotels around Germany, and a lower price doesn't have to mean a bad stay. Whoever owns this place should take the business a bit more seriously.

I was here for a two-week work trip. The location was okay, with good public transport connections, though it's far from the city center. The room itself was uneventful, and housekeeping came a few times, maybe just to make the bed. I didn't notice the sheets being changed once during the whole stay. The room was above a restaurant, so it got quite noisy late into the weekend nights, which wasn't great when I came back tired and wanted to sleep. Reception staff weren't around in the morning or evening. I can't say about the middle of the day, since I wasn't there then. Check-in was mostly through a machine with no human interaction. If something went wrong, support meant an out-of-country call or email. My company had already paid, but the machine still said I owed the full stay. I got it sorted by calling the service number, but at checkout the machine asked us to pay the full amount again. You get what you pay for: the service wasn't great, and the check-in setup was complicated, with little real human contact.

I loved the pond and planted area out back, and the hotel was excellent value for money. The staff I met were all nice, the receptionists spoke good English, and the woman working in the dining area was especially friendly and helpful. I arrived after reception had closed, but called ahead and got clear instructions for reaching my room, so that was easy. My room had huge windows and a decent view of the trees along the road. The free breakfast buffet even had a cool robot going around to collect dishes. It was quiet for four of my five nights, though guests in the next room were noisy on the fifth. The road outside also stays quite noisy until 11-12 at night. Otherwise, I had a perfect stay with no complaints. I'd recommend it and stay again next time I'm in the area.
