I picked Hotel Ambassador Essen for Spiele Messe 2025 after prices at several hotels I’d used in earlier years had climbed to ridiculous levels. This was one of the few that still seemed worth the money. My stay was good, and the room was nice and clean. The carpet in the hallways and on the stairs wasn’t as clean. When I arrived, I saw a crew working on upgrading a room.

The hotel was nice, but the area felt very dodgy, with drug deals happening right outside.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the Wi-Fi was excellent. There’s also a safe for valuables at no extra charge. My small room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the shower stayed strong and hot. It’s a great little budget hotel right in the heart of Essen. Highly recommended.

The room smelled of cigarettes, was tiny, and didn’t look like the pictures. We’d asked for a double bed but got twins; when we pushed them together, we found rubbish left by previous guests all over the floor. There’s no air conditioning or elevator, so read the description carefully. Opening the windows wasn’t much help because the area was noisy. We were very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it.

There was a spider web in the room, and it wasn’t clean. No air conditioning or water in the room, either. When I asked for a fan, they acted like they were doing me a favor. They don’t seem to care about guests. I’d avoid this place as a solo or business traveler. For a family, it would be a disaster.
