The heat was the biggest problem. Even with every window open overnight, the room held onto the day's warmth, and on a fairly ordinary 25-degree day it was impossible to cool down enough to sleep. Then the open windows let in the outside noise, including two different sets of bells marking the time every 15 minutes. The pillows were unbelievably uncomfortable and gave almost no support. I ended up sleeping on a wet towel to deal with both the heat and the pillow. The place is close to the central station, and the rooms have good equipment, a decent shower, and a huge TV if that's useful to you. The entry system takes a moment to figure out: the code goes into the door handle, not the panel beside it. For somewhere with a dishwasher, it's odd that there's no iron or ironing board. People on business trips might stay here, and I had to buy new shirts because I couldn't iron mine. I can see what they're aiming for, and it's okay, I guess. But in a hotel, I could have called reception to sort out these problems. Here you're stuck with them, which is frustrating. I won't return, though other people may enjoy it.

I paid about what I'd expect for a regular hotel, but got a roomy, very modern room. It's fairly near the city centre, and I had the window open all night without hearing noise. I'd definitely stay again next time I'm in Essen.
The noise from the nearby restaurants doesn't bother me. It's part of the appeal. I was pleasantly surprised by the room: it has a kitchen, dishwasher, coffee machine and microwave. And yes, there's no reception because it's not a hotel. You know that when you book.
The place is clean, nicely furnished and well located. In summer it gets very warm, and opening the windows brings in noise.
Room service was a disaster, and there weren't even hangers for clothes. The room itself was very small. It felt more like a rented apartment than a hotel.
