Petul Apart Hotel Ernestine

The rooms are small but comfortable, and the hotel itself is clean and modern. The area around it looked less appealing, which made that a nice surprise. There’s no lobby for check-in: ring the bell and staff give you the code for the key locker. Internet and parking are free. There’s no kettle or anything for making tea or coffee, and the two beds can’t be fastened together, so it’s easy to end up in the gap between them.

I got there close to 10 pm after a business meeting, only to be told the hotel was fully booked. Reception sent me to another Petul hotel and called a cab that I had to pay for. I’d paid for breakfast, but couldn’t have it there because I had to return to the original hotel to get it. I wasn’t satisfied and wouldn’t recommend this place for a business stay.

Petul Apart Hotel Ernestine, Essen cancelled my booking without letting me know. I had bought a train ticket from Munich to Essen and reserved two nights, from 13.11.2018 to 15.11.2018, through HRS - HOTEL RESERVATION SERVICE. When I arrived at the hotel on November 13, 2018, at about 20:00, the door was locked. I gave the receptionist my name and reservation number through the outdoor intercom, and was told the booking had been cancelled because of a problem with my credit card. I doubt there was a card problem, but even if there was, I had already provided my email address and phone number. I would have expected the Hotel or HRS to contact me to sort it out, or at least tell me the reservation was cancelled before I arrived. There were no rooms available that night, so after 20:00 I had to look for somewhere else to stay. I usually book hotels through HRS because I thought it was safe and reliable. When I called HRS customer service on 14.11.2018, they didn’t take my complaint seriously or explain their policy for situations like this. I emailed them as well and never got a reply. That seems to be their customer policy. I was really disappointed that HRS offered no help after this treatment. I cancelled my other reservations made through HRS, and I’ll never use HRS again or book Petul Apart Hotel Ernestine, Essen again.

It was better than the other hotel, but there’s still plenty to improve, especially the beds.
