The Parkhaus Hügel restaurant in Essen sits above the Baldeneysee. I found the atmosphere pleasant, the food and wine high quality, the service friendly, and the prices fair. It’s my personal review, no fake.

Our stay was very good. The hotel and our room were beautiful, and the staff were helpful, even carrying our bags from the cycles up to the room. We didn’t eat at the restaurant. One of the waiters made a fuss because we hadn’t booked, so we went next door to Hugoloss of diner instead.

The place is stunning, though I could still feel the dear servants looking down on me. Maybe it was just me.

Lovely atmosphere in a historic setting. The food is delicious and clearly prepared with care.

I stayed once and won’t go back. The room smelled moldy, and the rooms were basic, more like a hostel. Whoever rated it three stars is nuts.
