Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt City Centre

I’ve stayed at several hotels around Frankfurt over the years, but Hilton Garden Inn is still my favorite when I visit. The lobby is beautiful, and the Reception Desk staff are consistently friendly and courteous. Having a secure parking garage on site is a big convenience in this part of the city, where finding a space elsewhere can be difficult. From the garage, the elevator is only a few steps away and takes you right to your room’s floor. The breakfast is the best I’ve had at any Hilton. It combines European and American options, including scrambled and fried eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, a self-service waffle maker, and French toast. I’d wait for the French toast if it ran out temporarily. There are two coffee machines with all kinds of coffee, too, rather than just regular or decaf. I had a King Superior Room with a great city view. The room was bigger in person than Hilton’s website photos suggest, and the large angled windows had motorized outside shades that blocked the city lights when I went to bed. The rooms are attractive and well maintained. I was there for a week and kept having dinner in the lobby bar and restaurant, even though I told myself I should try somewhere local. The choices were so good, and the bar staff, who also serve as restaurant waiters, were friendly enough that walking a few blocks for dinner felt like a waste. I’m satisfied with the stay and look forward to coming back to Frankfurt.

The room was roomy, with a queen bed and those excellent Hilton pillows and linens. The bathroom was spacious too, with a big shower, and there were plenty of electrical outlets. Wi-Fi worked superbly. The walk from the train station passes through a rather seedy area, but the desk agent suggested taking the next street over, which made a huge difference. The hotel itself was welcoming, and check-in was helpful.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the shower was good. We could also leave our bags safely at the hotel after checkout, and the desk can arrange a cab. Throughout our stay, the staff were professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful. The location is the one small drawback, since some nearby Frankfurt streets and neighborhoods feel dodgy. Once inside, though, the hotel feels safe and welcoming.

The breakfast was very good, but the rest of my stay fell short of Hilton standards. My room was extremely cold because the heating didn’t work, and part of it looked unfinished or under construction. I’d checked in online, picked my preferred room, and asked for early check-in. When I arrived at noon, they said it would take 20 minutes, but I waited more than two hours. Then they tried to put me in a completely different room with no view. It took nearly another hour to get the room I’d originally selected. The check-in experience was very disappointing.
