Hotel Palmenhof

It’s easy to get around from here, with public transport close by and the inner city within walking distance for shopping and sightseeing. My room faced Bockenheimer Landstraße, though, and nights were noisy with speeding sports cars, people shouting while drunk, and police chases. The room layout also let in too much light: the main room curtains blocked it, but the bathroom had none and only a glass door between the two spaces. Breakfast was okay, but the sliced fruit and fish didn’t look fresh during my stay, so I’d avoid those.

The coffee is always hot, the booths are comfortable, and the food is dependable without costing much. Choice serves hearty, straightforward meals at a fair price. It’s reassuring to know what you’ll get.

The front desk service was really good, and the old hotel has a cozy feel, with large rooms and a lot of history. I’m sad the breakfast let things down. The fruit and bread options were good, but it was first come, first served, and the tables weren’t very clean. The bread baskets looked like they might never have been washed. The coffee machine was dirty on the outside, and after four days it still hadn’t been cleaned. Even the clean cups sat on a dirty plate on top of it. This place could have real value here, if the breakfast area got more care.

I’ve stayed here twice, and probably won’t return. The hotel feels old, and the bathroom wouldn’t flush properly. The receptionist was good on my first day, but the man at checkout was unfriendly and not helpful at all. There are better places to stay in Frankfurt.
