The Domicil Hotel Frankfurt City

I booked from Thursday, November 27 to Monday, December 1, then asked through Booking.com the next day, Friday the 28th, to change the dates because of a family emergency. My father is ill, but the staff showed no empathy. I emailed the hotel manager, and they were uncooperative and disrespectful. I’m still waiting for a response about the change, and they haven’t even replied to Booking.com. I have to leave before Monday. When I came back to the hotel, a male member of the night staff was so rude and disrespectful that I felt uneasy. The room was tiny and had no drinking water. There was no minibar in the first room, so I asked to move; the second room didn’t even have water. Pathetic place, not worth a single star. I wouldn’t feel comfortable or safe here, especially as a woman.

In December our room was very cold, though the bathroom heater helped a little. The hotel is okay in general, but the neighborhood didn’t feel very safe either. Those things made the stay less comfortable than we’d expected.

We had a clean, quiet and comfortable room, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s practical for a short stay, with easy access to the main train station. The area around the station can feel unpleasant, especially in the evening, when there may be loud or drunk people about. A comfortable option if being close to central transport is what you need.

The location is why I’m giving it four stars. I booked a single room, and it was worth the price. It was spacious enough for one person, with a view of the road, and the toilet was clean. I had no complaints about the room’s cleanliness or hygiene. There’s an elevator, which is useful with lots of luggage. My room had a small table fan but no air conditioning. It did have a heater, which I didn’t use; in winter I don’t think I’d need AC. There was no kettle in the room, but reception will lend you one if you ask. Tap water is drinkable, while the mineral water bottles in the room cost extra. The hotel is very close to the railway station, which mattered most to me because I had to get to the airport in the morning. It’s in the red-light area, with erotic shops and buildings around the corner. I didn’t see beggars, drunk people, or drug users right outside the hotel, though there were a lot of them on other nearby streets. That might feel scary if you haven’t seen it before. I was traveling alone, walked those streets to dinner and back safely, and had no problems. It probably depends on how comfortable you are in that environment; if you don’t plan to go out after 7 p.m., the location may not affect you much.
