Hotel Rappen

The location was great, the staff were extremely nice, and breakfast was very good. But the room was very basic, with sparse furniture and no phone or coffee pot. At over €200 a night, I found it considerably overpriced.

The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom floor heating was a nice touch. The room felt modern and must have been renovated in recent years, while the building and restaurant looked much older and more traditional. The location right beside the cathedral was great, and the welcome drinks and very friendly service were lovely. The biggest problem was the food smell throughout the day. The fried fat odor from the kitchen filled the stairwell and came into the room. My room faced the inner courtyard, but opening the window let the smell in there too. If you have a sensitive nose, this place probably isn’t for you. The shower head fell off as soon as I touched it, and the shower smelled like old drains.

The staff were great, and the food was great too. We had an exceptional experience and will be back.

The location on the church square is perfect, with rhythmic church bells, though the rooms are soundproof enough that you won’t hear the 6pm bells. The rooms are cozy, and the restaurant serves great local food. Breakfast is generous, with plenty of choices.
