For us, this was easily the best value we'd found in western Europe. The room was cozy and nicely decorated, with towels, linen and good wifi supplied. There's a shared bathroom, but I never had to wait. Heating and hot water were good, and the room had a fridge, lots of power points, a desk, chair and bedside lights. It was bigger than advertised, and the trays under the bed are a clever way to keep belongings from cluttering the space. It's self check-in, and the owner was very friendly and sent all the information in good time, rather than at the last minute. Lidl is nearby, and the town centre and train station are a 15-minute walk away. It may not be for princesses, but down-to-earth people should be happy here.
The price was low, 29 euros a night when I stayed in August 2024, and the location was convenient. The cathedral is a 15-20 minute walk away, and there's a Frelo bike-sharing station 50 metres from the place. I wouldn't choose it for a romantic getaway, though, since comfort is quite basic. It's a tiny apartment with two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. To reach your bathroom, you have to pass through a small shared hallway. It feels more like an Airbnb than a hotel, but there's no kitchen or refrigerator, just a kettle for tea or instant coffee. They provide two towels, and there's no housekeeping or cleaning service. I stayed in bedroom number 2, which has two single bunk beds. Bedroom number 1 is a little bigger and has a double bed. Cleanliness was okay, but the mattress smelled a bit musty. It's a reasonable choice for people after value and a convenient location who aren't too concerned about comfort.
I booked one room, but when I arrived they tried to put me in a different one. When I insisted on the room I'd reserved, they threw me out and called the police. The police said they were sorry, but that I would have to deal with the issue through the app, not there. I have proof of what happened. I'm sorry, but this is the truth. The service was nonexistent, the owner had no morals, and the place was terrible. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here for any reason.
The very low prices make the basic room easier to understand. It's a humble little guesthouse right in the centre of Fribourg, handy for a weekend away, but the rooms are quite spartan. There's also a privacy issue: the two available rooms aren't properly separated, since getting to the two private bathrooms means sharing access. I'd recommend it for young people or anyone without high expectations.
Everything you need is there, but the rooms are small, plain and very basic. The bathroom looks as if it hasn't quite been finished, though it works for the essentials. It's a budget hotel or house that's been converted for this purpose, and it's fine for a few days. If you're after more luxury, pick somewhere else.
