The property is 700 years old, quaint, very central, and surprisingly quiet in our experience. The owner was friendly and explained the area well. The room was clean, and it worked as a base for Neuschwanstein and other outings. Still, after three nights I was ready to leave. We drove around central Fussen for 90 frustrating minutes trying to reach Hintere Gasse because a marathon had blocked some roads and access wasn’t clear. We could have been warned. We eventually went the wrong way up the one-way Luitpold Strasse and walked to Hinter Gasse. The owner then told us guests staying on Hintere Gasse were allowed to drive the wrong way up Luitpold strasse while the marathon was on. Parking is in marked spaces opposite the guesthouse entrance, but they can be hard to get when the hotel is busy. We had trouble finding one on one of our three nights. Our split apartment had a TV, two double beds, an extra pull-out camp bed, cooker, toaster, fridge, microwave, and en-suite bathroom. The breakfast, served 7.50-9.30am, was toast, jams, biscuits, cereal, tea, and coffee. There were no blackout curtains. The shower was small, with barely enough room to move without knocking the controls, and its head grip was loose. There was no soap tray or hand towel rail. The pillows were huge and double-sized but lumpy and uncomfortable. The garden at the back was untidy, though it could make a nice outdoor seating area in my opinion. The owners are elderly, so I won’t criticize them too much for that. One of our three nights in July felt cold. There was no heating on, despite overnight lows around 11c, and we only had thin duvets and a very thin fleece blanket if wanted.

For the money, this was the best value. The hotel is very well located and serves a generous breakfast. The bedrooms felt a bit dark, there was no mirror, and the bathroom could use some improvement, especially the curtains. The accommodation is the reason it wasn’t awesome.

The room was spacious, with a comfortable big bed, good curtains, a comfortable temperature, and hot shower water. The bathroom itself was small and the mirror tiny, about the size of a sheet of paper. It’s a nice local hotel in a classically decorated building, and the location is great. Breakfast costs an extra €7.5 per person and can set you up with a sandwich to take for lunch. The older landlords were very helpful. We arrived around 830 pm, and they gave us dinner tips. They also sold us Neuschwanstein Castle bus tickets for €2.5 round trip, though parking at the castle is only €10. All in all, it was worth it.

The house is very old, and if you like old German style houses or attic apartments, this could suit you. Breakfast was outstanding, and the hospitality was superb. The staff live in the same building and were very nice and helpful. Early check-in wasn’t possible, and the lady could have told us that a bit more politely at first. The best part was that they let us leave our luggage before check-in and after checkout. Check-in is at 14:00 and checkout at 11:00.

We were treated to a welcome drink and some cookies, and the owner took plenty of time to explain Füssen to us. The rooms were clean, nice, and roomy, and breakfast was really good. We could even put together a lunch pack. A five-star stay for a very fair price.
