Our night was completely ruined. We’d booked through Booking and received an email saying we could check in ourselves after 10. We did that and paid, but couldn’t get in. When the owner or manager came out as other people were entering, he treated us like thieves and threatened to call the police. Once I told him to call, he realized we had paid. He still refused to let us in and returned the money. Go there only if you need to be humiliated.

The staff were attentive and friendly, and the rooms are roomier than at other B&B hotels. They stay nicely warm in the colder months, with working radiators and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. The shower is cramped, though, and I missed fruit salad and liverwurst at the breakfast buffet.

From the hotel, it’s a 10-15 minute walk to the old town and Friedenstein Castle, through a lovely castle park. The museum and casemates are well worth a visit, especially with the combination ticket. I also found the Ekhof open-air theater and its natural history exhibition very interesting. The hotel itself was clean, served a good breakfast, and is highly recommended.

I came for work and someone else booked this hotel for me. As a tradesman, I really appreciated the roomy gravel car park. Plenty of space for a Sprinter van, unlike the tight lots that are hard to get into. The rooms and breakfast were excellent, as I’d expect from this chain. I’d heard people mention Wi-Fi issues, but I had no trouble. It worked really well across three devices. A very good hotel, highly recommended 👍
