Hotel Garni Post

We got a free room upgrade when we arrived, which was a lovely surprise. The balcony had fantastic views, and the area was peaceful, with a few cafes and restaurants close by. Breakfast had a nice range of breads, cheese, cooked meats and more, and they kept everything topped up. The staff were friendly, and parking was available. We stayed for a long weekend in May and would come back if we’re in the area.

The view from our top-floor room was breathtaking, and the room worked well for our family of four. There was a little entry area with a futon-style couch where two children could sleep. The room was simple and very clean, and the bathroom looked completely renovated. I think everything apart from the doors had been updated recently. The building is old and its exterior doesn’t hint at what’s inside, so we were pleasantly surprised by the service, especially since we booked at the last minute when the resort was nearly full. Breakfast was simple but delicious, with fresh buns, cereal, oatmeal, cold cuts, cheese, eggs and yogurt. The coffee machine also made great lattes and other drinks. It took about 10 minutes to drive to the slopes, and the Austrian side of the mountain was around 20 minutes away, with night sledding a few times a month. We’d definitely return and recommend the place. Bring your own toiletries: the room had toilet paper and hand soap, but no shampoo or shower gel. There wasn’t a hairdryer in the room either, though maybe reception has one if you ask.

We felt at home as soon as we walked in. Our family of four stayed in a spotless, roomy and comfortable apartment. The family who own the hotel gave us a lovely welcome. Thanks so much to Ander, Father and the rest of the family. We’d happily recommend the place and will come back on a future trip.

Our balcony looked straight out at Zugspitze, and Lake Badersee was about a 15-minute walk away. The bus stop was just a minute from the hotel, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen was around 20 minutes away by city bus, which comes once an hour. The apartment was great, with clean bathrooms and good hygiene. Staff were supportive, and we appreciated having a German speaker and someone who spoke good English. There’s table tennis at the hotel too. It was affordable for me as a student. I’d say late May or early June is the best time to visit.
