Romantikhotel Waxenstein

The mountain view was lovely, and the quiet setting made this a nice break from city noise. There are a few small restaurants within walking distance, and the hotel is a short drive from Eibsee, the cable cars, and some nice hikes. We didn't eat at the restaurant because we didn't want veal two days running, but the menu looked good. It's an older, family-run hotel with lots of traditional charm, from the quirky wall art to the plaid carpet. The family was accommodating, and they left little chocolates and complimentary mineral water for us. The beds were so comfortable compared with our city stays, my back felt ten times better after one night. I gave service a four only because we were there for one night, so I had limited experience. There's not a lot around, but it's peaceful.

Magdalena gave a wonderful massage or beauty treatment, she's very skilled and has a spiritual side. The service was very good, and our suite was lovely, though the room felt like it belonged to an earlier era. It had everything we needed, including a well-stocked minibar at reasonable prices. The mountain views are stunning, and hikes start right at the hotel, so you can leave the car behind. The restaurant is good but expensive, with excellent wines, and there are several other good restaurants around Grainau. We had a lovely time, and I already miss the mountains.

Friendly staff, a very nice breakfast, and a great hotel close to Eibsee and Garmisch.

Arnika welcomed us so warmly and gave us really helpful hiking tips. We enjoyed the Bavarian atmosphere and service, as well as the great breakfast. I want to come back.
