The key arrangement made me worry about security. Guests have to leave their key at reception whenever they go out. When I raised this in the morning, the receptionist said there was nothing to worry about because it was a family business, apparently they only hire relatives, and there were cameras everywhere. That sounded sarcastic to me. But when we returned at night, our room key was sitting on the counter where anyone could see it. I asked for our room number and the night receptionist simply handed it over. He'd never seen me before, didn't check my ID, and said he trusted me when I asked how he knew it was mine. So a stranger could walk in, spot a key on the counter, ask for it, and get into your room. Cameras might help identify someone if they entered and stole something, but is that worth dealing with on holiday? Is it worth risking your camera, computer, or jewelry over a hotel room key?

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. But the rooms are basic, with no food allowed and no extras, not even bed lights. You also can't take the room key out of the hotel. The price felt kind of high to me, and I just wish it matched what the room actually offers.

It's near the central station, but I can't say the area around the hotel felt safe at midnight. If you're a woman planning to return late at night, I strongly recommend avoiding it to protect your safety. The room was very narrow, and the walls seemed so thin I could hear a woman in the next room moaning. Worst of all, the towels smelled bad.

The reception is open around the clock, and the staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel is about 150 m from the main station, with everything within walking distance. It's very old and nothing seems to have been renovated. The rooms are small, and the toilet is even smaller than you'd expect, but the sheets and towels were clean. It was acceptable for a short trip to Hamburg, though I wouldn't stay longer than two or three nights.

I've stayed in plenty of hotels, and this was one of the worst.
