Elbbrücken Hotel

A good all-round hotel in the city centre. Reception service was great, the beds were comfortable, and breakfast was decent. Street parking is free depending on the time. In short, decent bed, good shower, parking.

I’ve never posted a comment before, but I couldn’t keep quiet about this. The room and bathroom together were under 10 m2, there was no air conditioning, and the mattress was so thin I expected to need physiotherapy afterward. I paid 115€ a night. The free 500mb of Wi-Fi lasted less than 30 minutes just checking emails, then it was 10€ for every 2gb. Even the water bottle in the room cost extra. When I asked reception to call a cab as I was leaving, they didn’t call one. They said taxis were very busy that day and told me to take the train, so I had to go to the hotel next door to order a cab. By far the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in a developed country. Run far away from this hotel.

The hotel is clean and well maintained, in a quiet urban area close to shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s away from Hamburg’s centre, about a 10-minute drive or a 40-minute walk. My room, number 360, was small but big enough for a solo traveller staying one night. It was as clean as the rest of the hotel, and soap and other toiletries were provided. Breakfast was continental, with plenty of choice, in a clean, well laid-out room. Staff gave me a friendly welcome in German and English and were happy to advise on attractions and transport. I’d recommend it for a short stay, such as the night before a cruise, and I’ll be recommending it to my customers.

Good value for money, though you get a tiny room. The biggest drawback is the distance from the city centre. Two bus lines are available about a four-minute walk away, but they can’t be relied on.
