Hostel City Sud

For a short stay, this clean, nice hostel worked well for me. The shared bathrooms were fine and mostly clean, but the women's shower light switches off every two minutes. You have to step out now and then to trigger the sensor again. I appreciated the building's elevator and the kettle in the room. The room itself has very little equipment, but that didn't bother me. It's fairly central, and the main train station is easy to reach, though there's not much else going on nearby. Being on the top floor, the hostel can get very warm in summer. The price also feels high for this kind of accommodation and comfort, though I guess the convenient location explains it.

The sheets and linen were dirty, with hair and stains, and it was close to freezing inside. The owner was aggressive and the staff were rude.

For the price, it was alright, though you get what you pay for. My room was tiny and the walls were so thin that I could hear people in the next room talking at a normal volume. The women's shower light went out while I was using it, so I had to step out to trigger the sensor again. One shower also had a blocked drain and flooded the floor. There wasn't a bin in the women's toilet for pads or similar items. The rest was okay.

I spent three weeks at Hostel City Süd in Hammerbrook Hamburg. The place was comfortable, clean, secure and quiet, with two Bahn stations nearby. The concierge service was outstanding. The staff were punctual with the keys and the additional information. Strongly recommended.
