The location is great, and we booked the suite with two spacious rooms. But when we opened the fridge, there was a half-eaten yoghurt inside. The “breakfast” was one croissant per person in a bag, so we had to go to the supermarket. There was nowhere to leave our luggage on departure day, which meant losing half a day of vacation since we hadn’t come by car. The service was non-existent.

It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the nearest train station, then around 20 minutes on the S1 to reach central Hamburg. The hotel itself is quiet and very nice, and includes a small breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful, though only available from 8 am to 11:30 am. The entrance and rooms use access codes.

We booked the room at the last minute for one night in Hamburg and wished we could have stayed longer. It was tastefully decorated, the bathroom was large and modern, and the bed was comfortable. We were briefly confused on arrival because we read too much into the instructions instead of following them. The building is directly above the parking garage lift, but the signs aren’t very clear. The garage was frustrating and expensive, though we understand it may not be under Das Elbcottage’s control. Overnight parking cost €35. The machine wouldn’t take cards or notes larger than €20, and there was nowhere to get change if you left before the restaurant opened. A very nice resident opened the gate for us; otherwise, we would have missed our appointment.

Blankenese was quiet, and the place felt cozy and stylish. The staff were especially friendly and attentive. I only wish there were a proper breakfast; the whole-grain rolls were a nice substitute, though. Still, I'd recommend it.
