Breakfast was very good and much cheaper than the price listed in the room. There were choices without white flour, plus gluten-free and vegan food, cheeses, salami, muesli, pâté, and eggs on request. Coffee came in a nicely large pot, so there was no need to ask for a second or third. There was also fresh juice, fruit, and green foods to add. A coffee shop with a bakery is one minute away, there's a bio supermarket at the metro station, and two oriental restaurants are across the street. It's a high-quality option and I'd recommend it. The hotel is right at the university, which is perfect if you need to work there. The center takes 20 to 30 minutes to reach, and the metro station is a five-minute walk away. Rooms are nice, clean, and quiet, with a big bathroom, a bath, comfortable mattress, lift, heating, refrigerator, writing desk, table, and bottle of water. Reception and the lobby bar are open 24/7, which is a big plus. There was no kettle in the room, a downside. The price seemed high, though I didn't check typical Hamburg prices.

The central location is probably the only good thing about this hotel. It was far too expensive for what I got, and I wouldn't stay again. My room smelled so bad when I checked in that I slept with the windows wide open even though it was cold outside. It was late, so I stayed, but the smell was almost like urine. The carpets were old and dirty, though it wasn't obvious at first. I spilled water and wiped it up, and the towel immediately turned yellowish brown. I didn't feel comfortable or relaxed after my stay.

The rooms are spacious, in excellent condition, and well maintained. Mine even had a balcony, which was very nice. The service was fantastic, and the front desk staff were really knowledgeable. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of buffet options. The colors and furniture look straight out of the 1980s, a blast from the past in the best way. I'd definitely stay here again.

The old building has visible historical architecture, and the hotel was clean. Breakfast could have had more choices, but for a three-star hotel it was quite OK.

This 1890s hotel is in one of Hamburg's nicest residential areas, and nearby restaurants and cafes are just a short walk away. Its high ceilings make the rooms feel more spacious than they otherwise might. Breakfast is available as a buffet for €19 per person, though we didn't have time to try it. The staff and reception team were very helpful. We'd be happy to return next time we're in Hamburg.
