Moxy Hamburg City

The location worked perfectly for our city trip. There's a garage at the hotel, and the train station is a short walk away, so we could leave the car and explore Hamburg by public transport. The rooms were clean, and the staff were super welcoming and friendly. Bar prices are on the higher side, but still okay. The bed felt a bit hard. It was fine for me, though it won't suit everyone. The shower was the main issue: facing the shower head, my shoulders touched both walls. It was narrower than I'm used to in hotels, and I basically had to stand sideways.

The bridge work beside the hotel made getting there a hassle in October 2025. There was noise and dust every day of the week, and no clear directions to the entrance. People coming from the metro kept asking where the hotel was. The location may look convenient on a map, but it really wasn't then. Our ground-floor room was freezing in October and November because the thermostat barely worked. It was also very bare: just two rolls of toilet paper, one cup, and no kettle, utensils, or other amenities. Everything felt pared down to the minimum. Housekeeping would knock and come in without waiting for us to answer, at times around 9 a.m. and other times about 1 p.m. That felt intrusive. The reception staff were unfriendly at both check-in and checkout and made no effort to welcome us. I wouldn't stay here again.

The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and I'm already craving the Franzbrötchen and pasteis. We also had a really good drink at the bar. The front office team gave us such a warm welcome, and the room was great. A lovely stay.

The room itself had a decent design, and the staff were polite, but housekeeping was uneven. We were charged for breakfast at checkout even though we never ate it, and we're confident our AirPods went missing because of how housekeeping handled things. That's extremely disappointing at a Marriott property. We stayed 16-21 Oct. We picked Moxy Hamburg City for the Marriott name and its handy spot near the train station, but getting there was a daily nuisance. The main pedestrian road was closed for construction, so we had to walk through dirt and gravel. The hotel should have warned us about that. Check-in took 45 minutes with only two counters open, and we didn't hear about the €30 per night deposit until then. Poor communication, slow service, and no accountability left the stay well below what we expected.
