On the last morning, we even saw a mouse run from the kitchen into the restaurant area. That was the final straw after a frightening stay at Premier Inn Hamburg City Klostertor, where I was with a friend at the end of January. Halfway through our first of two nights, we woke to the smell of alcohol. When we turned on the lights, there was a drunk stranger lying on our room floor. The doors and elevators were supposed to require a room card, but we'd already noticed that the elevator didn't. Somehow our fifth-floor room door had also been opened, though there were no signs of forced entry. Once the man had left, I realized my documents were missing. I went to reception to report it. The receptionist didn't seem surprised. He offered us another room but said we should call the police ourselves, even though someone had trespassed in the hotel. Later, he said camera footage showed the man leaving the premises, and suggested he probably wasn't a hotel guest. We got no further information. Another receptionist in the morning also didn't seem shocked. The hotel reimbursed our stay on the next business day, but gave us no information about responsibility or how this could happen. I still wanted answers: Did the man go through all the floors, and how long was he in the hotel? Did he enter other rooms? How often are the doors maintained, and why did they fail? Why could someone use the elevator without a card when there's a bar on the ground floor and outsiders can easily go up? How did the man get into the hotel? Replacing my documents was a tedious and expensive process, and for weeks afterward I couldn't sleep properly. Even though I was reimbursed, I think other travelers should hear about the risks. What if we hadn't woken up, or the person entering had been aggressive? What about women traveling alone? I would advise everyone to avoid staying at Premier Inn Hamburg City Klostertor.

It was good value for money, and the location near the train station worked well for our early morning train. I slept comfortably, which matters a lot to me because I have a very sensitive sleep pattern. Two things irritated me: the duvet kept poking out because it didn't fit its cover, and the shower temperature shifted abruptly and often. Several times I was unexpectedly hit with hot water.

This German Premier Inn had the usual Premier Inn comfort, price, and standards. Hammerbrook S bahn and Berliner tor (S&U bahn) are close, with direct connections to the airport. The bar was nice, and although the Premier Inn store is a bit expensive, it's very handy. The room was quite hot, and there was no room temperature control available to cool it, which was annoying. Don't be put off by the S-Bahn right next door, though: you can't hear it, as my video showed.

The S bahn is only a five-minute walk away, and the city center is two or three metro stops from there, so the location worked well. I found free street parking nearby, and the hotel also has its own lot. Our room was comfortable, clean, and stylish. The S-Bahn noise could bother some people, but it didn't bother us.

Breakfast was excellent and had plenty of variety. The hotel was clean and tidy throughout, and the staff were very friendly. It's about a 20-minute walk to the center, with U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations nearby too. There's also a hotel garage available for a fee. I'd recommend this place.
