Pyjama Park Schanzenviertel - Hostel

The beds were comfortable, the rooms heated in winter, and the curtains were a great touch. You get a free lock and towel, and the building takes a key to enter, then another for the next door and your room, which felt safe. I also liked that the bathrooms and showers are outside the room, so you can shower or use the toilet in the night without waking anyone. The woman at reception was so nice, and the hostel is in the coolest part of Hamburg. This is the only hostel I'd choose if I come back. I've also heard good things from people who switched here from other hostels, so I'd recommend it.

We got a shared room for six with a private bathroom, at a great price. The area just outside the city center was quiet but still lively, with easy public transport access. Check-in was smooth thanks to the really friendly staff, and I could leave my luggage there before the room was ready. The room was very clean, my roommates were fairly quiet, and there was lots of storage as well as a much-appreciated standing fan. I'd happily come back.

The rooms are very nice. I had to arrive late, but after I let them know, they were accommodating and sent clear self-check-in instructions. They also kept my bag for a couple of hours after checkout, which was a big help.

In the dorms, one toilet per gender serves three rooms of six to eight people. I spent most of my time at the hostel waiting for the bathroom. That's absolutely ridiculous, and convenient toilet access is essential in any standard accommodation, so I can't recommend the dorms for that reason alone. Everything else seemed fine.
