Raphael Hotel Wälderhaus

The rooms are comfortable and free of dampness, and I like the eco friendly soap and shampoo. Weekend breakfast was excellent. The hotel is about six metro stops from the main train station, and staying here also means supporting the environment.

The location is good, near the station, so getting into the city is easy, and the surrounding views are beautiful. I liked the wood theme and the idea that each room has its own tree name. The bed was okay, though the pillow was a little too soft for me. The bathroom was clean, reception staff were friendly, and breakfast was good with enough options. The price is affordable, 15€ for adults and 7,5€ for kids aged 6-12. My only unpleasant moment was in the restaurant when an older female employee spoke to me unfriendly and asked that the kids be quiet. They weren’t screaming or running around, just excited about the holiday and chatting with each other.

We chose the hotel for a one night getaway because of the location, price and dog friendly policy, and the whole stay was great. It’s advertised as highly sustainable, which was a big plus for us, and that didn’t mean giving up the amenities you’d expect from a nice hotel. The decor is woodsy and natural, the beds were comfortable, and it was very quiet. My only complaint is that in the US coffee is usually included in the room, though there was at least a cafe in the building. The S bahn station is a five minute walk away, and from there it’s only three stops to the main station, with connections across the city. The park around the hotel was odd if you expected a forest, with a skate park, a rope park and hardly any trees. Still, it’s nice for a stroll or short run. We’d stay again.

Reception staff were attentive and friendly, and the beds were comfortable. The exhibition on forests was especially interesting.
