The hotel is nicely located beside the railway station, with a pleasant entrance hall, comfortable rooms and a good breakfast buffet. Some rooms only face a wall, though. The service falls short of what you’d expect from this category: reception staff seemed inexperienced, not very welcoming or well trained, and communication was poor. For instance, they gave me a plastic luggage tag, which I lost, though I remembered the number. I was charged EUR 15. They should use a standard paper ticket like other hotels or tell guests in advance about the high replacement charge. The spa was hard to find too, and staff gave unhelpful directions while the signs were unclear. I was also surprised that asking for stronger pressure during a massage costs another EUR 20. Their “full body massage” excludes the feet because of supposed “germ hazards,” something I’ve never encountered elsewhere. The hotel itself is nice and well located, but its processes and service don’t feel customer oriented and that affected the stay.

The atmosphere and sauna were good, but the bed setup was disappointing: two single beds pushed together and called a king, with two child sized single duvets. The room was also too hot in winter with no temperature control, a frustrating trait I’ve run into at German hotels. Opening the window is probably the best option.

The room was really nice, and breakfast was good, but the hotel still left me feeling cold. I picked it for the location near the railway station and only stayed one night. I got in after midnight and left early, and the welcome at reception was confusing. The young man barely looked at me or said anything. Maybe he was inexperienced, I don't know. I did eventually get my keycard.

We really enjoyed our one night here and would definitely come back. The room was cozy and super clean, and the atmosphere was great. As English speakers, we appreciated that the receptionists spoke English too. We couldn't work out how to change the TV language, if that option was even available, but it wasn't a big deal.

I loved the Art Deco look and original features, especially after arriving on the similarly themed Cunard cruise ship Queen Anne. The hotel was beautiful and conveniently located, with a lovely room, a great sauna, helpful reception staff, and good value.
