Clipper Boardinghouse – Hamburg-Holzhafen

Bring a torch! The apartment was lovely, with great staff, amazing views, and a real home-from-home feel. Everything else was perfect, but the smart light and heat controls will drive you mad. With the bedside panel's eight buttons, it's a gamble whether you turn on the bedside light or open the blinds and light up the whole room for everyone to see. Most of the tiny buttons need several presses too. Who thought that was a good idea in a hotel?

I stayed for about three months. The place was clean and cozy, the staff were very friendly, and the rooftop view was great. The location was fantastic too. My only issue was getting breakfast, since the adjoining bakery opens a little later.

This has been the best home away from home for me in Hamburg so far. The rooms are large, clean, and have everything you need. Service is amazing, the views are unbelievable, and there are great places to eat within walking distance. I'd book here again and again :)

It's a nice building with big, clean rooms, some with kitchens. The reception desk is open limited hours, from 9 to 5 pm, but the kiosk was easy to use for my after-hours check-in. They'd emailed the instructions 24 hours before arrival, but I was traveling through Europe and hadn't paid much attention until a few hours before checking in. Then I realized the desk would be closed when I arrived, and the email was in German. I had to ask another traveler to translate the process for me. Apart from that inconvenience, everything went well. The location is close to the famous fish market, which only opens on Sundays.
