Villa Viva Hotel Hamburg

I think the idea behind the hotel is great, and I like the brand and what it stands for. The staff were all super friendly, polite and courteous. The central location is good, and it works fine for short business trips. I also liked the firm mattresses, the separate toilet and shower, and the lack of carpet. The view is beautiful, but with another hotel in front of almost every window, we kept the curtains closed for privacy. The rooms are small, and mine was one of the larger ones. It would be nice to have a common area to relax, work on a laptop or meet other people. In summer, the roof terrace must be nice, but in winter there isn’t really anywhere to go. The restaurant doubles as the breakfast room, and in the evening they were already clearing and cleaning for the next morning. You could smell it, and it didn’t feel especially cozy. There were a few letdowns. The bathroom trash hadn’t been emptied, which was a bit gross, though these things happen. The room was generally very cold in November, and the floor didn’t warm up, especially in the shower and toilet, even with the heating on full for two days. I would have liked slippers. The smoke detector is right above the bed and flashes every five seconds. I’m glad there’s no carpet where you can’t tell who’s walked on it in dirty shoes, and I like the hotel’s purpose. But for the price, I found it too expensive for what you get, especially with breakfast not included and no kettle in the room. Five stars for a good cause.

We came for a conference, and the campground-style bunks or boxes worked perfectly for an event like that. We felt welcome and well looked after. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and when a glass broke, they didn’t make any fuss while still being easy to approach. Class. The rooftop bar is fairly priced, and the drinks are worth it. The view from the rooftop balcony was astonishing. Sadly, I didn’t have time to try the sauna.

I slept like a baby, and it was surprisingly quiet despite being so close to the train station. The room could be more spacious, but it used the space well and was comfortable. It’s great value, and the service was nice. What would bring me back is how eco-conscious everything is, from the design right down to the toilet paper and toothpaste. That’s what makes the place stand out for me.

The shared areas are great and lively, and the staff are warm, welcoming and even helpful with printing. There’s also a rooftop bar that stays open late. The location is great, about a 12-minute walk from Hamburg central station. The rooms are on the small side, but the price reflects that and the interior design makes good use of the tight space. With a proper big bag, though, you might struggle to get around. Pleasant stay and good value for money.
