The rooms were warm and the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing. I loved how the building looks like the famous German houses you see in movies, so staying there gave us that experience while still having modern hotel comforts. Breakfast was really good, and the staff treated us so well. Everyone was very friendly. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re driving through the area.

The restaurant’s 7 course meal with wine for EUR 89 per person is well worth trying. The cooking feels honest and local, with mostly local, biological ingredients and a maximum of 6 ingredients per dish, so you can taste each flavor. It’s not low priced, but fair. The staff are friendly, work hard, and seem to enjoy themselves. The building dates from 1753, and it has real charm rather than the straightforward layout of a standard American chain hotel. Ask for a room at the back if you’re a light sleeper, and bring a face mask if you need a dark room. A great place to stay and enjoy time together.

The little balcony was a nice touch in this historic old place. We had a lovely stay, and the people were lovely too. They’d left a welcome package in the room for our dog, and he loved the small, soft mattress.

The food has some real strengths. They know how to cook liver, the meat sauces are full of flavor, and the homemade ice cream and sorbet were very tasty. I wouldn’t pick the Pot au Feu, though. The potato tasted powdery, and the fish was overcooked for me. We had the romantic menu. It took 20 mins to get a drink at the start, but service improved for the rest of the meal. The servers were really friendly and accommodating. This place is making some progress bringing gourmet food to Hamm. It’s expensive for the area, though in Köln you’d pay much more for an inferior offering.
