Gästehaus Musmann

An interesting old hotel, with a lovely welcome, a comfortable bed, and a fabulous breakfast.

Breakfast was generous, served in the house’s old knights’ hall. If you need it really early, you can order whatever you like from the nearby café. I was here for work for just under a week at the Musmann guesthouse. My room was spacious and very nice, overlooking the garden. The hotelier was exceptionally friendly and even took us on a short tour of town when we arrived.

The house is over 100 years old and very beautiful, and the original style has its charm. Still, it’s a guesthouse where you mainly need somewhere to sleep, and not everyone will like having breakfast at the long table. The host is very talkative, though his banter may not suit everyone. I was fine with it, but as a paying guest I might have preferred a more neutral manner. The location, close to the center, was of course perfect and the main reason we booked. Breakfast was good, but nothing special. At €120 a night, it would have been nice to have a bottle of water in the room. I don’t really get why payment has to be in “cash,” as Mr. Musman literally put it. We had to go find an ATM. The reviews make the Musman guesthouse sound quite hyped up, and we probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

The location near the city center is the one positive. Our room looked nothing like the photos. It was dated and very noisy, and the worn furniture smelled musty, with spray used regularly to cover it. Getting into the tub and showering under a low showerhead was a slippery balancing act. Money seemed to be all that mattered to the owner, Mr. Abdallah Musmann. He told us, “I'm only interested in your money.” Before our first breakfast, we had to go to an ATM because he wouldn’t take cards or similar payment. He wanted cash right away and wouldn’t let us sit at the table until we paid. This applied to Booking.com guests too, which he called “modern slavery,” and he said only “crooks and criminals” worked there. Breakfast was okay, nothing more. We were told how to use the coffee warmer: cup in your LEFT hand, napkin in your RIGHT, and use it to move the lever. No other way! Another traveler’s TV didn’t work and wasn’t fixed, with the previous guests supposedly blamed. That was the icing on the cake. The value was extremely poor, €480 per room for four days. I’d like to know where the good reviews come from 🤔 P.S. Hopefully the missing smoke detectors and balcony railing will soon be a thing of the past!!!
