Aparthotel Ostsee (Strandpromenade Binz)

The sea view and balcony were the best parts of apartment 10. It was quiet, though not fully booked when we arrived on September 21st. There’s a designated parking space, but you have to get out of the car to open the barrier with the apartment key card. It opens automatically when leaving. Binz’s shopping area is about a 10-minute walk along the beach promenade. The name is misleading, as this is an apartment complex, not a hotel. We’ve stayed in lots of apartments on Rügen, and none have disappointed us this much. Each had small issues, but this one had too many, and the price feels unjustified when the sea view seems to be all you’re paying for. Next time we’ll choose a cheaper place in the second row of buildings, where things are more modern and in better condition. The apartment felt run-down. It had clearly been painted before, with paint on the wall lamp. The bathroom has loose faucet handles, a scratched siphon ring, a calcified shower head that won’t adjust properly, leftover wall fixtures, a cracked stool, wobbly towel racks, and a shower door that rattles even though it looks new. The kettle lid pops open when the water boils and usually won’t close again, while the kettle keeps going, so it’s best to unplug it. The discolored sink also looks dirty. The mattresses are worn out, leaving you in a dip. Tile floors and high ceilings make the whole place echo like a train station waiting room. It does get warm and the heating works, but adjusting the living room thermostat means getting down on all fours because it’s under the radiator. Hot water takes a long time to come through, which wastes water. The apartments open onto an outside corridor. That’s not necessarily a problem, but the bedroom faces it, with the corridor light on all night. There are only ordinary curtains, so it doesn’t get dark, and leaving the window open isn’t possible with other apartments along the same corridor. The entrance is dark in the evenings. The lights by the old reception area are off, with only the lights at the back on. In the stairwell, the motion lights don’t come on until after you’ve started down the first steps, leaving them completely dark. It seems you’re meant to use the back entrance from the parking lot, since it’s well lit and leads straight to the elevator. The kitchen has ventilation, but the room is interior and it doesn’t seem to work. After I cooked pasta once, it was very humid in there.

The sea view and location are really nice. "Dune 21" is an acceptable apartment, but the mismatched furnishings don’t make for a tasteful atmosphere.

We’ve now booked the third floor twice, for a week each time, and had another wonderful stay. It’s centrally located, with a lovely view.

A cozy, stylish apartment with everything we needed, and it was super clean. We didn’t even need to wash the dishes before using them, which isn’t always the case! It’s rented to dog owners, but there was no sign that a dog had stayed before. So clean! Highly recommended!!!
