The food was really good, at both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is German-style, though scrambled eggs are available too. The hotel feels old, and it’s clear it hasn’t had much investment lately. The people make the place, and the service is very good.

The rooms are very clean, even if they’ve seen better days. The location is terrific, and I haven’t found better service at any hotel in Harsewinkel than at the Poppenborg.

If you arrive late on your first visit, the key box is on a wall. Enter the code you were given when you reserved your room. One key opens your room door, and the other opens the hotel’s front door.
