Wie im Himmel

I found out only the evening before we arrived that roof work meant scaffolding had been put up around the house. I asked whether it was just at the front, but got no reply. It went all the way around, including across the balcony, so five of us couldn't use it. The way to the garden and barbecue area was blocked too, and getting through in the rain over a lawn covered in leaves turned into quite an adventure (see photos). I wouldn't have booked this place for a spontaneous short break if I'd known. The landlady wouldn't discuss a compromise and instead said I hadn't checked things properly. Guests should be able to rely on the listing and be told about restrictions like this. The description of the house was misleading as well. The advertised “5 bedrooms” didn't match what we found: one was inside another room with no door, another was in the upstairs hallway with no door or heating, and the so-called bedroom in the “living room” was actually in a conservatory. The stairs were another problem. My son has intellectual and physical disabilities, but he can manage ordinary stairs on his own. These were more like a ladder, very steep with staggered steps, and he couldn't get up to the room with the large bed. My husband had to sleep downstairs with him in the small room and put a mattress on the floor. I was especially misled by the listing's claim that the upper floor was accessible by stairs.
