Ringhotel Drees

I was there with my family and kids. The hotel was really nice, clean everywhere, and the workers were kind and helpful. We'll come back for a few days after Easter!

The pool and sauna were especially good, and the facilities and overall standard were high. Rooms were comfortable, though a little worn. This is a big family hotel focused on Borussia, and it's handy for an overnight visit to the stadium. Getting to the city center is less convenient, since the subway only comes every 15 minutes. Staff were friendly, but some seemed very reluctant to speak English, and visitors may be surprised that reception insists on German. Breakfast was the main disappointment. For a German hotel this size, the choice felt limited, and by 9.00 on our first day, most food was gone even though breakfast runs until 10.30. The coffee machine was broken too. It's still good, but the price and 4 stars set higher expectations.

Nobody smiles here. If you ask a question, they answer like you're stupid and get upset when you ask for information. The bedroom was small, which was fair enough, but there were no towels in the bathroom. I didn't know they don't use towels after a shower in Dortmund. There was no bottle opener either, so you had to use a coin or a lighter to open a bottle. We asked the long-haired man at reception to call a taxi yesterday. He said one was coming, but didn't give a time when we asked. After 30 minutes we realized he hadn't called at all. We got lost in translation. The sauna was switched off when we went to use it, though at least there were towels there. The pillow on the bed was cheap and impossible to sleep on.

I stayed here for a wedding in November 2021. The rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast setup was second to none. I hadn't had a proper German breakfast in years, and this was like hitting the mother lode. Looking forward to coming back.
