HIP Hotel

I stayed here almost a year ago. The themed rooms have basic amenities, and the location is great. Reception was friendly and breakfast decent, but I'm giving one star because of a very serious safety issue. I was traveling alone when a drunk man wandered along the floor in the middle of the night. I'm not sure he was a guest. He tried to open my door, and I stayed completely quiet, hoping he'd go away. Instead, he found a staff member and convinced them that my room was his. The staff member opened the door without checking his identity. I was inside and immediately shut it again. The staff member did knock first, but as a solo female traveler I had no way to know who was outside. They never checked the man's ID either, which made it even more unsafe. It was the scariest experience I've had while traveling, and I don't feel the hotel took guest security seriously. At checkout the next day, I raised what happened, but it was brushed off with just a casual apology. I would recommend the hotel for its location and themed rooms, but strongly urge them to take guest safety more seriously and improve their security measures.

The room was themed around a coastal city, and the little surprises were a nice touch. It’s a really interesting idea for a hotel, with each room representing a different city around the world.

The location is great, though the hotel itself was just okay. Each room has its own theme, and we stayed in Wein, which is looking a bit worn. There was also noise at night from the restaurant and the street below.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and we enjoyed sitting out front with a drink in the evening or using the beer garden at the back. Our Ottawa room was clean and comfortable, with a cool design, though the rooms are fairly basic apart from their themes. For the price, that was fine. The window opened onto a picturesque, busy street, and there was a fan, but no air conditioning. Breakfast was an average buffet, perfectly fine, though one of the nearby cafes might be a better bet. The hotel is right in the heart of Heidelberg, which is a great location.
