House of Hutter - Heidelberg Suites & Spa

We stayed overnight in a clean, cosy room with a view of the castle. The location is perfect too.

The castle and old town view from our room was lovely, and the staff were friendly. But the small spa charged extra for the sauna, which surprised us after a hotel in Nuremberg where saunas were included. The hot tub was out of order, and the landscaping looked messy. We came for two nights with my husband while touring Germany's Christmas markets. The place seems as though it was beautiful in its prime, but now feels dated. There was mold and mildew in the rooms, marked walls, damaged curtains and lampshades, artificial plants everywhere, and pictures literally slipping out of their frames. Our tea light was burned out when we arrived. I asked for a replacement and was told one would be brought up, but it never came. Service felt disorganized at times, as the staff seemed young and fairly inexperienced. The location and view were nice, but the stay didn't match the glowing online reviews or the expectations they set.

We had a great time watching the castle at sunset from our room, and looking out at people passing by. The river and Heidelberg views were incredible. This little hotel sits on a beautiful historic street, with the Philosopher’s Walk trailhead very close by. The old town is just a short walk over the bridge.

Breakfast was lovely, with German baked goods, and they can bring it to your room too. The rooms are beautiful and well kept, and the renovations don't seem to have taken away their original character. Right by the river, it's about a 10 minute walk to the Alstadt. The staff were really helpful and accommodating, even suggesting places to eat when we arrived. Such a good boutique hotel, I'd happily stay again.
