Pension Jeske Heidelberg

The location was good, but for the €60 I paid, the room was pretty basic and I had to share a toilet with other guests. The wooden floor upstairs was really noisy, and at night I could clearly hear other guests using the bathroom.

The apartment is right in Heidelberg's old city, in the pedestrian zone, and you can drive up to drop off your suitcases. The parking garage is only a few hundred metres away, and P12 is recommended. Heidelberg is a very nice city. Our bedroom was clean. The top floor has a small shared bathroom with a hair dryer, and each floor has shared coffee and tea facilities. I like the idea of sharing these to keep the price reasonable, but it depends on people behaving decently. Someone took all the coffee, even though there had been plenty when we arrived, so by the next morning there was none on either the first or top floor. Apart from that, everything was good.

The room was big and comfortable, and having a shared bathroom worked well. Free coffee and tea were available, and the fruit was delicious, especially the grapes grown by the owner. The place is right in the middle of the old town, by an entrance to Heidelberg castle. Thanks to the owner for offering such a low price in Heidelberg.

We left and booked somewhere else. Life's too short. We were told there was parking, but there isn't any on site. The only option we found was a paid car park 10 minutes away for 29.50 Euros, since this is a no-parking zone. We'd booked here, but after looking around we didn't risk staying. It felt like a glorified squat, with rooms along the hallway and more at the back. There were no smoke alarms, smoke seals on doors, or fire extinguishers in those areas. The property seemed like a 1650 sailing ship, with wood and other flammable materials everywhere, a tinderbox. The rooms are two more floors up, which felt far too risky to us. The Jeske parts of this sub-let property did have smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, but if a fire started downstairs, it would be game over.
