Rafaela Hotel Heidelberg

The staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, and everything felt clean, comfortable, and up to date. It’s right by a lovely square, with the old town just a short walk away. There’s no parking at the hotel; we used P16, which cost 17 euro for our one-night stay. I’d happily stay here again when I’m back in Heidelberg.

We liked being just outside the town center, since we prefer a quieter place, and the old town was still an easy walk away. The hotel is on a peaceful street, the updated rooms were great value, and the beds were really comfortable. We also enjoyed the cafe and beer garden out front for breakfast and in the evenings. Everyone on staff was kind and helpful. Highly recommend.

The hotel is in a good location and most of the staff were very friendly. The owner’s attitude changed when we questioned the bill, though, and came across as condescending. We left feeling bitter about the whole experience. At check-in, we were told breakfast was included, but nobody said that covered only one person. At checkout, we were charged for breakfast for me and our toddler, at the full adult rate for the toddler. After seven nights, we were surprised by a bill for two full breakfasts every day. These charges should have been made clear at check-in so we could decide whether to eat at the hotel or go to a bakery. In the US, I’ve never had to pay for a baby or toddler’s breakfast, and we have laws requiring costs like these to be disclosed before or at check-in. When we raised it, the owner said they wouldn’t do anything and that we had to pay because it was “an amazing deal.” That felt condescending, and this practice wouldn’t even be legal in the US. We also saw other guests being given mugs as gifts each day, but we didn’t receive one despite staying for seven days. It would have been nice to be treated equally. The hotel may have potential as a good small hotel, but unfortunately I have to advise against staying here.

We loved the large room and the kind service. We called because traffic meant we’d arrive late, and they gave us a lower price than the booking price. It’s in a great spot, too. My kid’s first hotel stay, and now they want to go again.
