Hotel Central Heidelberg

In the hot summer months, like June and July when it’s in the high 90s, the lack of air conditioning is a real problem. They provide a small fan, but our room felt like an oven. On the plus side, the hotel is about two blocks from the train station, and the staff are very friendly, though they speak little English. Breakfast is charged by the day rather than as one all-inclusive price. They do make an effort to give you a great breakfast experience.

It was an average stay. The room was generally clean and okay, though the mattress and pillow were both too soft for my taste. There was no AC in my room, and you can see the age of the place, but it was fine. The staff were nice and spoke good English. The location is convenient, near the train station, a major supermarket, and plenty of restaurants. I’d recommend it.

We were four people staying here in June 2025. Our room had plenty of space, with two twin beds and a queen, and it had been remodeled along with the older hotel. The facilities were nice apart from the awkward bathroom steps: you had to step up to enter, then step up again for the sink and shower. All of us tripped on them or stubbed our toes. There’s no AC and we didn’t have a portable fan, so we opened the windows on very warm nights. That let in a lot of noise from across the street. We were glad to have brought earplugs and eye masks. The area is busy and loud, though the location is fairly central and near the train station, which is convenient on foot. A park across the road toward the station had people talking loudly and screaming late into the morning. Police came twice to clear them out, but they returned after about 20 minutes. It’s a short walk to the alstadt and major shopping area. We also stumbled on a fun little afternoon music festival in another park down the tram line. Grocery and coffee shops are close by. There’s gated private parking out back for a small fee. Staff were friendly, though sometimes hard to find when they were in the kitchen or helping other customers. They didn’t speak much English or German.

We walked from the train station with our bags, an easy trip of about 300-400 metres. Several nice restaurants are within five minutes on foot. The staff were very friendly and glad to answer our questions, and our room was lovely with an updated bathroom. My one suggestion would be to extend the shower glass so less water gets onto the floor.
