The rooms were comfortable, modern and clean, and it’s a lovely little place about a 20-minute walk from the center of Heidelberg. Check-in felt like a mix of an Airbnb and a regular hotel, since we had to call an hour before arriving so someone could bring the keys. One awkward thing was the bathroom door, which is a one-way mirror fitted the wrong way. You can’t see out from inside, but the person sharing the room can see everything inside the bathroom. So maybe skip it if privacy is an issue 😅 Still, we had a good experience.

The staff tried hard at first to sort things out, but in the end nothing came of it. We’d planned a relaxing anniversary weekend in a luxury apartment and got a dirty, smelly room with things partly broken instead. On arrival, I was told a pipe had burst in our room 30 minutes earlier. Then I found out it had apparently been leaking for 10 days, when they could have contacted me and we could have worked something out. Finding a hotel at noon for that day and the following weekend was hardly realistic. After we complained and showed video evidence, they moved us to another dump. It took 5-10 minutes and a lot of luck to get the door open. The bathroom was filthy and the bed was really uncomfortable. They were supposed to compensate us for the next night with a different hotel room closer to the luxury apartment we’d booked, but that never happened. We didn’t get a room and left early. Bad, worse, car by side... that sums up the stay. We won’t book with Car by Side again, though we’d definitely recommend them? Especially considering hygiene and coronavirus, if we get sick now, we’ll know why. Car by Side!? You really failed!

The room seemed used, with one side of the bed still unmade and a dirty toilet. There was no cleaning staff available, so they promised us a discount on the room. It never came.

The furnishings are high quality, though a few spots look worn. It’s clean, the price is good, and the location is excellent.
