Hotel Hohenhaus

The restaurant staff were outstanding: friendly, charming, attentive, and top notch. I’d give the service 10/10. The gourmet restaurant’s food was a 7/10, and the kitchen did a very good job overall. The kids’ food was mediocre, though. My child said it “tastes of nothing,” and after trying it myself, I had to agree it wasn’t great. This doesn’t seem like a place aimed at kids, and it doesn’t try to hide that. The breakfast was ridiculously overpriced. The real frustration was the cancellation policy and how it was handled. We had two family members ill with Covid, and weren’t sure if they could come. The required cancellation deadline was four days, or 96 hours, in advance. That was buried deep in the AGB/TOS and hadn’t been mentioned when we booked by phone. In the end, they couldn’t join, and we had to pay high penalties for both the restaurant and the rooms. I understand the restaurant needs to arrange ingredients ahead of time, but a 75% penalty for rooms in those circumstances was way over the top. Reservations were made by phone with very few details in writing, and we spent a lot of money for nothing. When we asked at reception if there could be a middle ground, the responsibility was pushed onto the hotel trainees. The place didn’t own its harsh terms, and blamed someone who wasn’t there to defend themselves. Pretty ugly, honestly. It feels like the place took a hard hit during Covid and hasn’t recovered, with guests paying the cost. The pricing and penalty system felt messed up and unfair, far too expensive for what was offered. Blaming a trainee and making guests pay for nothing was a low blow, and likely means this was our last visit. Own the mistakes, don’t blame trainees in their absence, and be open to compromise. Then people might come back someday.
