The garden is beautiful, well cared for and securely fenced for dogs, with screening built into the fence so nobody can peer in. It was quiet, with seemingly endless hiking trails nearby. The house itself is tastefully and modernly furnished, comfortable, and fitted out to a high standard. It's a lovely place for a peaceful holiday with a dog. One thing to know in summer: there's a robotic lawnmower. Our bulldog found it strange and scary, so we switched it off before he decided to take it apart. You have to ask the homeowner for the code to turn it back on. Bring plenty of water bowls too, since none are provided. Quartierfreund's service was genuinely friendly and good. We also recommend the Sahlenburg dog beach, and for a special meal in a pleasant atmosphere, Osteria La Fenice in Cuxhaven. We love staying here.

The village is generally quiet, though the house is a bit away from the beach, so you'll need a car. We knew that in advance. The house is fairly new and modern compared with some other holiday rentals, and seems suited to four people, perhaps two adults and two children. The kitchen is well equipped. The window fly screens are very good, and needed. A torn armchair was a minor issue, but the final cleaning wasn't good. There was sand on the floor and hair from previous guests in the living room and bathroom, so we had to wipe and clean things ourselves to feel comfortable. It could use a thorough deep clean too, as some windows were getting hard to see through. A bar of soap in the bathroom would've been nice, so we left a soap dispenser for the next guests.

The area is lovely and peaceful, and the house was modernly furnished and clean when we arrived. Unfortunately, the heating was off. With underfloor heating it takes several hours before the place feels comfortable. One bedroom has a bed just 1.40 m wide, which doesn't really count as a double bed by today's standards.

It fits into the landscape so nicely. A good example that you can build without high-rise hotels, and that bigger, wider and taller isn't the way to go.
