Hotel Landhaus Lauble

Our last-minute dinner turned out to be such a good choice. The vegan guest was especially impressed by a flavorful dish made with vegan cream. Everyone was looked after warmly, and when the women got chilly, the staff brought blankets. They checked in without hurrying us and made sure we had what we wanted. Portions and prices were good, and we were very happy with both the restaurant and accommodation service. Book a table if you’re nearby, this place is easy to miss otherwise.

The setting and atmosphere were just right for us, and the meal was fantastic. We hadn't planned ahead, but stopped in for dinner and found a big menu with plenty of variety. The food was superb, and the service was friendly and hospitable in a typically German way. We didn't stay at the hotel, though we'd consider it next time.

Our room was at the back, with almost no view or balcony, just an awkward flat roof to step out onto. Others in our group had much nicer second-floor rooms with balconies overlooking the lake and valley. That was the only reason I held back a star, because this traditional Black Forest hotel has a lot going for it. The grounds are lovely, with a small lake you can swim in, though the water was very cold in June. There's plenty of parking, and the location is good. Staff were friendly, especially the young woman looking after our group that evening, and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone spoke English. The food was good, and families could use the games on the grounds. I'd happily return, but would ask for a lake view room.

Lunch at the restaurant was delicious, with authentic food and great service. The view over the snowy Black Forest village was amazing.
