McDreams Hotel Ingolstadt

I usually like self-check-in hotels, but this one was a mess. The site kept switching back to German after every detail I entered, and after a long process I finally got my room and PIN. Then I learned the doors don't have electronic locks and you need a card. A few other late arrivals had the same problem. One person called the hotline and got a code for a luggage locker holding her card, but that code didn't work, and it was different from the PIN. Staff eventually turned up after about half an hour, confused and searching through a tablet. We got our cards and were let into our rooms roughly another half hour later, after a staff member told me I HAVE TO call customer service to get a key card. Why doesn't the painfully slow system say that? This is unacceptable nowadays. My last stay with this chain. I can't recommend it. Get your act together.

For the price, the quality felt fair, and I'm pretty satisfied with what you get. The rooms were very clean, and turning on the heat worked well when we needed it. I liked being able to open everything through a browser, though I do wonder what happens if your phone dies or the internet goes down. The hotel sits in what feels like an industrial park, and soundproofing could be better since we could hear other guests talking in their rooms.

The self-check-in machine was broken, and it took 40 minutes to sort things out and get into the hotel. There wasn't any human contact during check-in, which was a shame, though I suppose that's the modern world. Once settled, the place was clean, modern, and had what we needed for a hotel. It was easy to find and well connected to the main roads. There's internet, but no mobile signal inside the building. There are places to eat nearby, including a bakery above. Good value overall. Reception friendliness and whether the landlord spoke English weren't applicable.

Only average rooms for an average price, and I found both the location and service poor. I understand the hotel is fully digital, but at night there isn't a single service person on site, which left me wondering what might happen in an emergency, especially since the area didn't feel very safe. Early in the morning, housekeeping staff came into the room without knocking or checking whether the guest had checked out 😂. I don't understand how the average rating is 4.3.
