Hotel Engelbert

The double rooms were comfortable and had a great bathroom. It’s also very well placed for the town and its restaurants.

I really liked the location right in the center of Iserlohn. The hotel is tastefully furnished, and the room furniture was quite clean and new. The bed was so comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was simply good. I can recommend Hotel Engelbert to visitors. :)

The church bells may be the one downside: they ring every 15 minutes from 6am until 7pm. Another review pointed this out, and they were right. I’m midway through a four-week stay, though, and after a day or two I barely noticed them. They add some charm, and you can learn the local time from the sound. The hotel itself has been great. Everyone is extremely friendly, helpful, attentive, and courteous. The facilities are spotless, and the rooms are tidy, practical, and well appointed. Breakfast is a feast, even when you’re the only guest. The location is ideal: two minutes on foot to the right from the hotel exit takes you to the train station. To the left, a footpath cuts through the city and leads to shops and places to eat. Next door, Spetzmans is a cafe with wonderfully decadent desserts and chocolate, the best you’ll find outside Switzerland or Papa Haydens in Portland. It’s a lovely spot to sit outside with coffee and torte and watch people go by. Iserlohn isn’t really a tourist town, so most people are locals. They’re friendly and helpful; if you need someone who speaks English, try someone under 25. They learn it at school and online, and can usually be counted on to help politely.

A good option for business travel in Iserlohn, close to the train station and city center.
