Hotel Aviva

The staff worked quickly to clear tables during the busy breakfast rush, making space for guests, and were very efficient. Our room was spacious and worked well for a family. The bathroom needs some attention: the shower glass doesn’t contain the water, so it runs onto the floor and could be risky, and the sheer curtains don’t offer much privacy. Still, it’s a good place to stay and I’d recommend it.

The beds were comfortable enough, and breakfast was good. We were disappointed, though, because they’d confirmed by phone that a couple of our rooms would be close together, even giving us the room numbers. At check-in they gave us different rooms and didn’t apologize. The rooms could be better, and the staff a bit friendlier.

We found plenty of parking both on the street and at the property. The next morning’s breakfast was a real surprise, with a big range of fruit, cereals, salmon, and different kinds of eggs, more like a four-star standard. Staff kept working hard to clear up after guests and set fresh tables. Everyone was polite and helpful, and they explained how things worked. We got an amazing rate for one night on our way back from Strasbourg, and the stay was amazing.

The room comfort was a bigger concern for me than the free food. The mattress was old, thin foam, and I could feel the wooden slats underneath. We were given just one key even though two of us were staying there. The fitness room was on the second floor and barely useful, with hours only from 6 pm to 9:30 pm. The receptionist said there was no laundry service, and the hotel is far from anything to do in the evening.
