Hotel am Herkules - garni

The rooms were fine and clean, but the hotel had no atmosphere at all. It felt dead, like the hotel in The Shining. They advertise a sauna and restaurant, but both were closed. The reception also closed before check-in time. If those facilities close seasonally, guests should be told when booking. The alternative they offered was to use facilities at another hotel, a 10-minute drive away. There were very few places to eat nearby, just two. One closed before 20 and the other only served people with reservations. Bring your own food and forget about relaxing. Luckily, we were only there for one night.

At 58€ a night, it was very good value. The room was a decent size, clean, tidy, and somewhat new, with a good mattress. WiFi was medium speed, and it was otherwise quiet apart from some echo in the corridors. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and breakfast had both hot and cold options. The hotel is super close to one of Kassel's main sights, the Hercules monument and surrounding park.

We liked it and would want to come back. The area has beautiful nature and plenty of lovely spots for walks. It's a cozy hotel, close to almost all the city's attractions, and there's a wonderful cafe nearby with delicious food and pleasant service.

We stopped here for one night on our way to Dresden and its Christmas Market. Snow on the ground and in the trees made everything feel magical. What a delightful hotel, with a friendly welcome, a lovely spacious room, and a good breakfast.
