Stadthotel Kassel

We paid €140.00 a night with breakfast, which was far too much. Breakfast was okay, but the staff were unfriendly, to say the least. The hotel is old and shabby, the room felt impersonal, and the curtain was hanging down. The beds were uncomfortable and the mattresses need replacing. It was also very noisy, with trucks collecting bins or unloading things. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. If I could give it no stars, I would.

The internet was slow and kept cutting out, which made working on my laptop frustrating. When I went to reception in the morning to raise my concerns, nobody was there. I hadn't complained the night before because I had a meeting the next day and needed to rest. There were problems with both the price and the room. Reception quoted more than the price shown on the website. When I pointed that out, the receptionist said I'd looked at it wrong. I checked again after getting settled, and the site still showed the lower price. Even after I mentioned that, the receptionist insisted aggressively on the higher rate, which felt dishonest. The bathroom and bed linens weren't very clean, there weren't enough towels or disposable slippers, and the room had no mini refrigerator. The hotel charges high prices but the service was subpar. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Location and walking distance to a restaurant, shop, or beach: 8/10. View: 3/10. Pool, sunbed, and relaxing: 2/10. Service and hospitality: 6/10. Room and comfort: 5/10. Motorcycle parking: 2/10, public parking, though I'd leave my bike anywhere and have no special demands. Price-quality ratio: 5/10. Temperature, climate, and air conditioning: ? Food: ?, I didn't have breakfast.

Lovely old-fashioned interior, and the place is clean, simple, and efficient. Good for solo travellers, especially if you get the 'deluxe' room. I just missed having some international channels on the TV :)
