Wirtshaus zum Schützenhof

We were glad we picked this place during our Frankfurt airport layover. We wanted to get out and experience something of real Frankfurt, and the great ratings drew us in. It’s close to the airport, and the traditional food and hospitality were top drawer. The schnitzel was 5 stars. I’ve tried and failed to make anything that good at home. The mushroom 3 ways is worth ordering, too. Thanks to the team from your new fans in New Zealand.

We only visited the restaurant biergarten for dinner with friends from far away before they left the next day. It was a lovely evening, with good food and beer. I’m glad we found such a nice local spot, and I’d happily recommend it for meeting near the airport.

The people in the restaurant were kind, and the food was really delicious. The room was quite nice and the bed comfortable, but unexpected visitors in the room felt really creepy. Some guy walked in, and I assumed he worked there, but who knows. There are no physical locks inside the room, only the phone entry. I didn’t know it was keyless entry before arriving. That wasn’t clear on the website or confirmation. I just got a random email with the details from another service. In the pouring rain, with a cranky toddler, I had to figure out how to use the door. You have to use a smartphone to get into both the main door and your room, so I wouldn’t recommend this place if you aren’t very comfortable with technology.

What a great find for a meal during a long layover, just a 10 minute drive from Frankfurt Airport. A very nice gentleman served us, though I forgot his name. It started with M. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the Frankfurt schnitzel and rump steak. I recommend getting the chanterelle soup with whatever meal you choose. Service was great, too. Our server was patient about our lack of German and very helpful when we were trying to sort out a taxi. Perfect!
