Gartenhotel Hunsrücker Fass

We go to Hunsrücker Fass for dinner regularly and have never left disappointed. The staff are friendly and really engaged, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Their menu changes with the seasons, which is a real plus. It mixes traditional German food with a twist, newer creative dishes, and vegetarian options.

What a disappointing evening. The Wiener schnitzel was fatty, full of gristle, and didn’t taste much like a proper one. The menu was also surprisingly tiny, with only a handful of dishes. The staff apologized for the problems, but the apologies just kept coming.

The atmosphere was cozy and the service was friendly and attentive, with a varied, sophisticated menu. Still, the food was a real letdown that evening. My venison goulash came with just two pieces of meat. The waitress kindly offered to get more from the kitchen, but some of the extra meat arrived frozen or ice-cold. Another server offered dessert on the house, though it didn’t make up for the poor main course. Two friends had spit-roasted beef cooked tableside, but nobody asked how they wanted it done. It was too well-done for them and much too thin, so they were disappointed too. The other dishes were acceptable, but the meal didn’t meet our expectations. I hope the kitchen was just having an off day, since the lovely setting and good service could make for a really successful evening.
