Atlantic Hotel Kiel

With prices of more than €100-200 a night, I expect an iron in the room, or at least one available somewhere in the hotel. Not having one at all is hard to accept. A paid ironing service doesn’t solve it if it isn’t available when we arrive, and charging for it still doesn’t seem fair. This hasn’t happened to me in all my travels in Africa and Asia. Lukas at reception was very rude when I raised the issue and spoke disrespectfully to us. Totally disappointing.

No compassion when people are in crisis. A fire forced my family and our 7 dogs out of our home, making our stay impossible, but the hotel still demands payment. We were trying to find somewhere to live during peak season, and they showed no flexibility. Avoid this heartless place.

My family of three had a good welcome at reception. The receptionist was incredibly helpful and suggested the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, which we were looking forward to. What happened there was unacceptable and honestly something I hope never to go through again. Nobody greeted us, offered help or showed us to a table. We eventually found our own, but it still had used beer cups and cigarettes on it. We tried to get menus and called a waiter twice, with no response. A family who came in after us was helped straight away. We sat at the dirty table for at least 20 minutes without any acknowledgement, then decided to leave. As we walked away, people nearby laughed and giggled. It was humiliating and completely unprofessional. We felt treated unfairly and disregarded. This all happened during a one-night stay, in just a few hours. Since we seemed to be the only people there of a different nationality or background, it’s hard not to wonder if racism played a part. We absolutely don’t recommend this hotel, especially for families of color.

A comfortable hotel with large, clean rooms, a good breakfast and friendly staff. The location is good too.
