Hotel Birke - Appartments Waldesruh

Waldesruh is part of the nearby Hotel Birke, with its apartments above the Wine & Dine restaurant. We stayed in the tower room on the top floor and loved it. The beds were comfortable, and there were lots of pillow options. Guests can use the Birke wellness area, which was very quiet when we visited. It has several saunas, steam rooms and pools, as well as a café, a small place to relax, and complimentary water and tea. The co-hosts, as they call themselves, were warm, attentive and considerate. The staff’s dedication at breakfast really impressed us, and the hot and cold food was a treat in both quality and presentation, with plenty of choice. We didn’t have time to try the restaurant, though it’s usually fully booked. Parking costs, I think, €10 in the hotel lot, or there’s often free parking nearby if you’re lucky enough to find a spot, sometimes right outside. The hotel is on Kiel’s green outskirts. We left the car parked and took the bus into town. It runs right by the hotel at least four times an hour on weekends, and takes about 13 minutes to reach the main train station.

A good choice for private or business celebrations. We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms.

A fun evening with good food and wine. The etiquette course was a lovely idea, covering napkin folding, how to lay out cutlery and glasses, some wine basics, and the faux pas to steer clear of.

The mattresses were really good, so we slept well. The hotel was nice, and the rooms were spacious and clean.
